Super Smash Bros Wii U/Pokemon Alpha Sapphire

So! It's been a week since both games were released, and I must say that, for as annoying as my coworkers hypetrain-rides were, I am actually enjoying both games immensely.

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire

First off, this is the only generation of Pokemon I never played. I'm not sure why, but it was never one I asked my mom to buy for me. It was probably because I never really liked the GBA in the first place. I thought the first version of it - you know, the clear purple one. No backlit screen, all awkward and stuff - was ugly as hell. When I finally received one, the only two games I ever really played on it were Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town and Golden Sun.

So, I was out of the Pokemon scene til I bought Diamond, which introduced so many new things since Gold/Silver I felt like I was playing a new game. There was stirring! There were muffins! There were fashion shows! It was great. However, since I'd skipped a generation, I thought a lot of the Pokemon were from IV, and not III. In fact, III basically didn't exist to me.

Now, as I play through AS, I'm pleasantly surprised at all the Pokemon I thought were way newer than they actually are, including Wingull and Whismur. It's an extremely new experience for me, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

I have two badges, so far. I think these gym leaders are extremely easy this time around. My Beautifly crushes the competition with ease. Take that, competition!

The sneak is also extremely fun. The more you sneak up on a Pokemon, the more information about it the Dev gives you the next time - It shows the shadow of the Pokemon, the level, the gender, its first move, if it's holding anything, and I think its ability. That's all I've seen so far.

Also, the Dev shows when you've caught all the Pokemon in an area - if you've seen a Pokemon in a battle before but haven't caught it, its shadow will be present on the screen. Once you catch all the land Pokemon, a bronze crown will appear on the upper corner. Once all Pokemon are caught, both in water and on land, a gold crown will replace it.

It uses the same 3D effects as X and Y, which is cool. I haven't yet brought in any of my Pokemon from my bank just because I'm trying to experience the game as I should and not rush through. I really like Team Aqua, it doesn't seem as Nazi-ish as Team Flare did. They look like pirates, and that's awesome. The way Kyogre's being introduced, as well, is pretty awesome. I loved the "primitive" drawing of it on the cave wall.

So far, I'm enjoying the game. I'll probably blog more about it later as I discover new things. My only problem is that I can't catch stupid Geodude, but that's probably just a personal thing. *** and *** both have Ruby, so I'm relying on them to pass over some of the exclusives. As always, I will try to catch every Pokemon available and complete the pokedex the best I can.

Super Smash Bros. Wii U

I've already posted pictures of my amiibos, but I didn't really play much of this game until a few days after we bought it.

I definitely like playing with other people most, but it's also fun to train with the amiibos, who level with you. Honestly, they are more intelligent than normal NPC's. They edge guard and attack the people who have more damage/less lives, like most players I know. They were definitely a good investment. I enjoy customizing them (picking their skin and naming them) then feeding them different items obtained through normal Smash runs and upping their Attack, Defence, or Speed. Each item will lower one stat while raising another, so plan accordingly. Their special moves can also be unlocked through Smash runs, so, for example, my Yoshi now throws eggs for his A move rather than doing his normal punch.

I like picking the difficulty for each Smash run, but I don't like that each match is just against other characters. I miss having Metal [whoever] and the target games. Those were all fun. That's what I miss the most. I guess the "story mode" in Brawl was also fun, but I don't mind it being gone.

I do mind the absence of Ice Climbers. I liked them a lot. My style of play with other people is just to annoy them. I don't play to win. With the Ice Climbers, I was able to do that (also with Yoshi and Kirby, but that's for later) so, I am disappointed they didn't make a return.

I'm happy for Ganondorf. Gimme more of him. Zelda and Shiek being separated? Meh. Not a fan. I like Dr. Mario, though. I want a Dr. Luigi.

I don't know, I enjoy it a lot more than the 3DS version and Brawl, but I don't really like a lot of the stages, since there are some that literally make you explode if you hit something too much. I liked the stationary stages more. I know there's the Omega option, but that also takes away platforms. I liked those, too. Gimme platforms and unchanging stages! I don't want to build my own :(

Ramble ramble.
