This post probably won't have as many pictures in it, since I don't have any saved on this computer from my Sims 4 game on this computer. I am sorry, picture lovers.
I haven't posted in a few days. I bought The Sims 4 on Saturday, because I've been itching to play it for a few weeks. I'd read they didn't include pools in the first edition, so I waited for that patch to buy it. Now there are pools!
My first family began as Jeph and Jenni Japson. I made them as douchey as I could, because that's funny. I didn't want to make people I know, yet, because I wanted to see how well the AI worked on this game.
I haven't religiously played a Sims game since the very first one. Well, maybe I played 2, I don't remember. The first was my favorite, though, since my parents' computer sucked and couldn't run the second.
Anyway, these Sims are a lot smarter than the first game., and way more sociable. They're easier to care for, and they seem to understand logic. Just a bit.
It took me a while to get used to how building worked, since the colors of carpet are now in one place, rather than having thirty different "types" (colors) available for different prices.
The decor seems a bit limited, but I think that's because I had every expansion for the first game and I'm just used to having EVERYTHING. I hope they bring back pets and the blow up chairs <3
Anyway, the way the people interact in this game is wonderful. Instead of physically attacking one another when they're in a bad mood, they instead vent or take a bath, instead, to let the stress off. In fact, SimSon (named Jubee) came home from school one day angry that his teacher caught him cheating, and he began beating the hell out of his stuffed dinosaur. Shortly after, he began chatting online with an old man named Ashley, who proceeded to call Jubee while he was taking a dump. He stayed there for about an hour, talking to the old man on the phone and clearing his bowels. It was really strange.
That's when I realized Jubee actually had homework in his inventory. So, after that day I made him complete it. Jeph enjoyed helping him with it every day, when he wasn't off catering. Jeph is a foodie, and adores making dinner for his family. He's pretty good at it, and only caught fire to the oven three times. I consider this quite a feat. Once I realized (again) that his meals could be placed in the fridge, I had him create two or three every other day for the family to eat off of when he was busy at work, so they wouldn't burn the house down.
Jeph also likes playing the violin and piano, even though he's awful at it. I mean, he sucks. Terrible. But, it's his outlet for those awful days of catering when people send back their underdone food.
Jenni started out as a botany enthusiast, but I quickly changed her to an artist because her job was much more fun, and I couldn't figure out how to plant seeds. She also enjoyed digging for rocks, and found quite a few different minerals, which she sent off to be examined. She also likes cooking, but isn't as good as Jeph. Jenni is wildly romantic, and since her days off never coincide with Jeph's, she often gets tense. Poor Jeph is never up to woohoo'ing, though, and they spend the rest of their day embarrassed and hiding from one another.
Ever since they became full adults, they packed on a lot of weight, and it's kind of hard to make them work it off. I should probably sell the cupcake machine, but I don't want to. It's too much fun.
Okay, so the buy/build music is beautiful. The different instruments used - bassoon, english horn? and flute - that repeat the same phrase throughout the song really, really remind me of Curse of Monkey Island: LeChuck's Revenge. I checked, and they're different composers, but the guy who worked on the Sims 4 did a wonderful job at producing catchy, yet unannoying music to listen to while I buy my Sims a new penguin TV.
I've put maybe 5 hours into the game so far, but I adore it. I hope others will try the game and enjoy it just as I do. The only setback is that Origin is mandatory. :(
Later, I will make a post about my favorite computer games throughout the years. I wanted this to be solely my first impression of the Sims 4.
